Man United told Bruno Fernandes is more likely to leave than stay as£60m clause becomes active

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes continues to be linked with an exit as his contract at Old Trafford runs down.

Over the summer, Bruno Fernandes rejected a move to Saudi Arabia, showing ultimate loyalty to Manchester United.

Months later, Fernandes released a bombshell interview where he accused the club chiefs of lacking courage and suggested they wanted him to leave.

Should Manchester United keep Bruno Fernandes this summer, or is the time right to sell for big money?

Fernandes’ contract at United expires in 2027, so his value is decreasing with time, but his performances for the Red Devils are as good as they have ever been.

Reports suggest United want to keep Fernandes, but rumours of a 2026 exit refuse to go away.

Alex Crook predicts Bruno Fernandes is likely to leave Man United

Speaking on the Transfer Insiders podcast, transfer expert Alex Crook commented on the likelihood of Fernandes leaving United in the summer.

“Yeah, I think if you were asking me to give you a percentage, I think it’s probably 60-40 that Bruno Fernandes was to leave at the end of the season,” Crook said.

“We know he’s got this release clause of less than £60 million that top clubs in Europe can activate. I think he might feel that maybe he’s ready for a new challenge, that he’s taken Manchester United as far as he can.”

Back in October, reports suggested Fernandes has ‘no interest’ in joining the Saudi Pro League.

But what should worry United supporters is that European clubs could come sniffing for the Portuguese playmaker in the summer. No one can deny that Fernandes deserves to win league titles and the Champions League, and he may be tempted by a European move at the end of the season.

Bruno Fernandes is showing no sign of slowing down

Fernandes has already scored 100 goals for United, and he is closing in on the 100 assist milestone too.

After providing yet another assist in the 3-2 win over Arsenal on the weekend, Fernandes has got 10 assists in back-to-back seasons, and there are still 15 games remaining in 2025/26.

The Premier League record for most assists in one season is currently held by Kevin De Bruyne, and Fernandes could come close to matching or even breaking that figure this season.

At 31 years old, Fernandes still has so much football to play, and he is still the talisman of this United side.

Ineos should be prioritising a new contract for Fernandes rather than trying to find a replacement.
