Man United have been linked with a shock move for Chelsea star Cole Palmer amid claims he’s “homesick”
The former Man City star was a Man United fan as a child, and so the reports began to claim that he could move to Old Trafford to become the long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes, whose contract is due to expire in June 2027.
It would be a huge deal for both Chelsea and Man United, as Palmer has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the past couple of seasons, despite his recent injury struggles.
Rosenior says Palmer is ‘untouchable’ at Chelsea
Amid all the claims about Palmer’s uncertain future, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior was asked about the recent rumours of a potential exit, and he was clear in his message to Man United and the rest of the Premier League.
When asked by Sky Sports if Palmer is ‘untouchable’, and happy at the club, the Chelsea boss responded: “Yes and yes. It's simple. I'm not surprised at the timing [of the rumours]. A new manager comes in and all of a sudden there's people are looking to unsettle. It's not true. Cole's here, he's very happy, and I can't wait to see him on the pitch.
"We've had numerous conversations with him on how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him - because he loves being here and he wants to be a Chelsea player. You can't stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth, there's not point having any discussion about it."
It seems as though Man United will have to look elsewhere for their long-term Fernandes replacement, as Palmer looks to be staying at Stamford Bridge.
Could Bruno Fernandes stay at Man United?
The Palmer links came about with the knowledge that Fernandes is set to leave Man United in June 2027. It is understood that because his contract is running down, the Red Devils could opt to sell him this summer, to ensure they get some form of financial return for the Portugal international.
It is understood that the choice will lie completely with Fernandes, but the Red Devils want him to sign the one-year extension option in his current contract, which would keep him at Old Trafford until June 2028.
There is reported interest from the Saudi Pro League, but Fernandes himself wants to still play at the top level, so there could be the desire for him to stay in Europe, despite the links.
