Report: Man Utd could make deadline-busting signing out of nowhere after injury news emerges

Manchester United could make a late move to strengthen their left-back position after Patrick Dorgu's hamstring injury, according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds have seen a brilliant upturn of morale in recent weeks after Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as manager, as the team claimed back-to-back victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, moving them up to fourth in the Premier League table.

But the team were dealt a major blow when Denmark international Dorgu was forced off late on against the Gunners with a hamstring issue, which has ruled him out for up to 10 weeks, and now the club are considering finding a short-term solution in the transfer market.

Man Utd Consider Dorgu Replacement

Dorgu was initially signed last January as Ruben Amorim's first signing, as the club looked to bring in a more traditional left wing-back option for the Portuguese manager's system.

But Dorgu struggled in that role, and has looked far more threatening playing as a left-winger in recent weeks. However, he is also considered to be an option at left-back, and his injury means that Luke Shaw is now the only natural left-back option in the squad.

Man Utd are aware that they have Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui who are also capable of playing on the left if needed, while Tyrell Malacia is still at the club too. But none of them are considered to be long-term options, and it's understood that if Dorgu's tests come back to show more damage than initially feared, it could spark them into action in the transfer market before Monday night's deadline.

Youngster Diego Leon, who joined the club last summer, is also an option and isn't expected to leave on loan this month, but the club don't believe he is ready for a prolonged run in the first-team at this stage.

Man Utd Don't Need to Panic

While Dorgu has a unique profile and skillset in the Man Utd squad at the moment, the club shouldn't panic in the transfer market with a signing just because he is injured.

Dalot, Mazraoui, and Malacia all have top-level experience at left-back and are more than capable of filling in as a short-term option if Luke Shaw isn't available too. In addition, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Mason Mount are all first-team options who can play out wide if needed, while the academy is full of exciting talent that is waiting for an opportunity.

Unless the signing is one that will be an unequivocal success in the long-term, rather than a stop-gap signing, then the club don't need to panic in the market.
