Douglas Luiz has returned to on loan with an option to buy at €25 million (£23.4m), as the club responds to an injury crisis in midfield.
The 27-year-old left Villa in the summer of 2024 as a sacrifice to (PSR), with the club facing a potential double-digit points deduction ahead of the June 30 deadline.
He joined Juventus for £42 million, and Samuel Iling-Junior moving in the opposite direction. However, Luiz struggled with injuries in Italy, and the transfer did not work out as hoped.
After starting only three Serie A matches last season, Luiz was made available for transfer and joined Nottingham Forest late in the summer window.
Forest signed the Brazilian with a conditional obligation to make the deal permanent next summer, but he failed to rediscover the form he had shown under Unai Emery at Villa.
Luiz made 14 appearances for Forest, including 10 starts, and recorded one goal contribution - an assist against Real Betis in Spain.
Despite interest from Chelsea, Villa moved quickly to bring Luiz back to B6 following an injury blow to Youri Tielemans.
The Belgian is expected to miss around two months after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United.
Villa are also currently without Boubacar Kamara, who is out for the season, and John McGinn, who is expected to return in March.
Meanwhile, Ross Barkley is set to return to training this week as he nears a comeback from a knee injury.
