Forget Cole Palmer, Ineos already know their Bruno Fernandes replacement at Man Utd

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Cole Palmer but the transfer rumours have been shut down in the last 24 hours.

There were reports that Cole Palmer is unsettled at Chelsea, which naturally sparked rumours of a potential move to Manchester United.

Many believe Palmer could replace Fernandes at Old Trafford, with the Portuguese playmaker coming to the end of his current contract in 2027.

But Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior played down Palmer rumours, insisting he will not be leaving Stamford Bridge anytime soon.

While many supporters were excited by the prospect of bringing Cole Palmer to United, he actually isn’t what the Red Devils need.

Man United don’t need Cole Palmer because Bruno Fernandes replacement is already here

United fans will agree that replacing Bruno Fernandes is essentially an impossible job. What he has done for the club over the past six years is extraordinary.

But there will come a time when Fernandes leaves, and there will be huge boots to fill. Palmer’s style of play does align with what Fernandes has been doing for United, but everyone seems to be forgetting about Matheus Cunha.

Ever since his £62.5 million move from Wolves in the summer, Cunha looks, feels and plays like he was born to be an Old Trafford star.

On the weekend, Cunha scored the winner against Arsenal in style. He is growing in confidence with five Premier League goals to his name this season – the same as Fernandes in 300 fewer minutes.

Matheus Cunha can play centrally and replace Bruno Fernandes

Upon his arrival, Cunha was given the iconic No.10 shirt at United and that is not insignificant. It suggests that Cunha sees himself as a central playmaker at Old Trafford.

Journalist Ben Jacobs believes that Cunha wants to play centrally at United further down the line, and that puts him in pole position to replace Fernandes.

Currently, Cunha has been playing off the left at United, and that will likely remain under Michael Carrick, especially after Patrick Dorgu’s injury.

During his time at Wolves, Cunha often played centrally, sometimes even as a centre-forward or a false nine.

Replacing Fernandes will be a huge task for United, but with Cunha on the books, it means that Ineos can actually prioritise other positions such as the midfield department.
