The latest Man Utd transfer news in the final days of the January window.

Barcelona have made it clear they would like to keep Marcus Rashford beyond his current loan deal until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old scored the 9th goal of his loan spell as the Catalan club came from behind to defeat FC Copenhagen in the Champions League during midweek. Rashford is considered a successful signing since he moved to Barcelona on loan last summer and could make his move permanent at the end of the campaign.

Barcelona agreed to pay Rashford's wages in full when he joined them, while they also have the option to buy him permanently for €30 million (£26m). The La Liga club have not decided whether they will trigger that clause or not, and could opt to offer another loan or negotiate a fee below the previously agreed clause. Whatever happens, Barca boss Hansi Flick is a huge fan of the forward and would love to keep him at the club beyond his loan spell.

Romano predicts Rashford exit this summer

Manchester United were happy to let Marcus Rashford leave the club permanently last summer but a loan move to Barcelona proved to be the best short-term solution for all parties.

The 28-year-old declared he was ready for a 'new challenge' in his playing career back in December 2024 and has subsequently played for both Aston Villa and Barca on loan. It remains to be seen what a change of head coach might mean for his Old Trafford future, but Barcelona are in control if they decide to activate their option to buy him this summer.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Rashford's future and reiterated Barcelona's desire to keep him. "He scored a goal for Barcelona, and Hansi Flick once again sent a message in public, his speed, his quality, he’s adding something to the squad. Hansi Flick is in love with Marcus Rashford," Romano said.

"So Barcelona’s intention, as they already communicated at the beginning of the year, is to find a way to keep Rashford. At the moment, there’s still nothing communicated with Man United. Barcelona haven't told them they will pay the buy option, they'll try to talk to Man United later this year to try negotiate and find a solution for Rashford. But what’s also true is that Marcus Rashford and Barcelona are very happy together. They will find a way. Let's see financially what happens with Man United, but the intention from Barcelona is to keep Marcus Rashford at the club. The conversation is going to continue."
