The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip in the final days of the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old is reportedly unhappy with life in London and would love to move back home to Manchester. The reports also claim he has no interest in a return to his former club, Man City, but would like to play for boyhood club United if the possibility arose.

It wouldn't come cheap, though. Chelsea spent £40 million to sign Palmer from Man City back in 2023, and he signed a massive nine-year contract extension in 2024, which will keep him at the club until 2033. The London club have no intention to sell their star man, and it would likely take a huge club-record fee to do so. United plan to refresh their midfield this summer as well as strengthen at left wing and full-back, which might already price them out of a move to sign Palmer.

Chelsea have no plans to sell Palmer

Even if he wants to leave Chelsea, the club are in control of the future of Cole Palmer. They are determined to make him work out at Stamford Bridge and a full sale is viewed as a last resort and would only be considered if a huge fee was offered in return.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano offered an update on Palmer's future and the chance of a move to Manchester United. “Chelsea did their job in the Champions League. And don’t forget the message coming from Liam Rosenior after the match. In England, in the last couple of weeks, we’ve had many rumours about Cole Palmer being unsettled or having problems at Chelsea, Cole Palmer wants to go back to Manchester, he wants to play for Manchester United,” Romano explained.

“Before the game, Rosenior said Palmer is happy and untouchable but after the game he said, by himself, that Cole Palmer in the dressing room was looking like a very happy guy. The message coming from Chelsea is very clear: Cole Palmer is considered an absolutely key part of the project for the present and the future. Chelsea believe Cole Palmer has to be one of the crucial parts of their project.

“There’s absolutely nothing ongoing in terms of contracts, problems or conversations. But things can happen. As of today, they have got zero coming from Cole Palmer or his camp about this. Zero at all. Liam Rosenior is sending a very clear message: untouchable, happy and so important for Chelsea.

He added: “If at some point they decided to part ways, it would take a crazy amount of money – but really crazy. That's the reality of Cole Palmer as of today."
