Ian Wright says he’s ’not having’ what Gary Neville has just said about Michael Carrick at Man Utd

Michael Carrick’s return to Manchester United has been a hot topic of conversation for over two weeks, but Ian Wright strongly agrees with a view expressed by Gary Neville when it comes to the head coach role.

It remains to be seen if Michael Carrick can salvage something for Manchester United this season, after becoming head coach shortly after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.

Carrick has enjoyed two major wins over Man City and Arsenal since becoming United head coach, but, as Michael Owen has warned, more stern challenges await the Red Devils in the Champions League.

In the coming weeks, United fans will find out whether this team can become genuine contenders for the Champions League spots.

It’s great for fans to see a club legend back in the dugout, winning football matches and getting the most out of his players.

United can make it three wins on the bounce when they host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.

Former United captain Gary Neville previously said United cannot consider keeping Carrick beyond this season, urging Ineos to hire someone with more experience, like Carlo Ancelotti.

Neville has stuck with that opinion after watching United beat Arsenal 3-2 in their latest Premier League outing.

“Michael shouldn’t get the job at the end of the season, in my opinion. And I’m saying this really unemotionally, right?” Neville said on the Stick to Football podcast.

“It’s nothing to do with what two weeks ago, where to be fair, I agree with Roy, that no one would have mentioned Michael for the job, right? If you’re going to earn your stripes and manage one of the biggest clubs in the world and handle the pressure that’s going to be thrown at you, I think you have to have that years of experience personally.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright challenged Neville and questioned why United gave the job to Amorim if experience was a key point for Ineos, Jason Wilcox and co.

“So why did Manchester United give it to Amorim? I’m not having that,” Wright said in response.

“If he goes in now and he’s proving that he can do it, off the back of this result, what are you talking about?”

“He should get the opportunity to see if he can do it. If you’ve given it to Amorim.”

Former United midfield ace Paul Scholes was a special guest on the Stick To Football podcast this week.

Scholes recently claimed that if Mikel Arteta’s side won the Premier League title this season, they would be the ‘worst’ team to do it.

Wright called out Scholes for those remarks, saying: “If we win it, we’ll win it with more than 77 (it was actually 75) points like you lot (United) won it.

“****’s sake, Scholesy. Is that my mate there? Reading this, (I’m thinking) that’s my mate…”

Scholes was quick to correct and issue an apology over his comments.

“I meant to say the most boring team, not the worst team. Sorry.”

Wright replied: “You know what? I’ll take boring and win!”

The difference here is that Wright was unable to argue that Arsenal aren’t boring. They’ve played sleep-inducing football under Arteta all season.
