What Man Utd sources are now saying about making a signing to replace Patrick Dorgu after injury

It has been suggested that Patrick Dorgu’s latest injury setback could force Manchester United’s hand in the January transfer window ahead of Monday’s deadline.

The past two weeks have been almost perfect for Michael Carrick following his appointment as Manchester United head coach until the end of the season.

Carrick’s return to Old Trafford came after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, and the 44-year-old has not been afraid to make big changes to his team, especially after reverting to a familiar system with four defenders.

He couldn’t have asked for a more difficult task in his first two games, but United secured six points from wins over Man City and Arsenal.

Carrick has got the best out of United’s star players by playing them in their best positions, although Patrick Dorgu was tasked with playing on the left wing before scoring in both matches.

However, Dorgu’s positive run came to a crashing end when he pulled up with a hamstring injury in United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Dorgu faces up to 10 weeks out, but Carrick has yet to comment on the injury’s diagnosis, meaning United fans must wait until Friday afternoon for a further update on the Dane.

Man Utd not planning transfer activity after Patrick Dorgu injury

Dorgu joined United last January as Amorim’s first signing, but in recent weeks, he has emerged as a greater threat to opponents.

The 21-year-old struggled as a wing-back in Amorim’s back-three system; therefore, he looks far more threatening playing as a left winger.

It remains to be seen who United will use to replace Dorgu, as he started the last two games, but whispers of transfer activity have intensified since the Denmark international sustained the injury setback.

According to Alex Cook on talkSPORT podcast The Window, United are not currently looking to do any deals before Monday’s deadline, despite learning Dorgu will be missing for most of the games the Red Devils have left to play this season.

“There have been reports that he could miss up to 10 weeks, which basically rules him out for most of the rest of the season, which is a real blow on a personal level because he had a lot of stick this season, Patrick Dorgu,” Cook said.

“But finally, he seems to have found his place in the team, and now he’s going to be unavailable for a few weeks.

“I did speak to my sources at United and asked that might change their approach in the final days of the window. The answer I got back was I’d be surprised. So at the moment, they’re still not planning on making any signings.”

United don’t need to panic because they have Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, who can both play on the left and the right.

Carrick also has players like Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko waiting to make their first start since he returned as head coach, despite impressing as substitutes.
