Michael Carrick is on the cusp of Man Utd feat that took Ruben Amorim 47 matches to achieve

Ruben Amorim is hoping to continue his 100% win record since becoming Manchester United’s head coach earlier this month when Fulham visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

After a topsy-turvy first half to the season, Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim and quickly turned to Michael Carrick to become head coach until the end of the season.

Carrick already had an unbeaten record from his brief spell as caretaker manager in 2021, when he stepped in following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal. His first two matches this time around saw United take six points from Man City and Arsenal.

In order for United to achieve their objective of Champions League qualification, Carrick will be tasked with winning more matches than Amorim managed before Christmas.

The focus for Carrick will be to take each game at a time, ensuring he and the team do everything required to get maximum points.

It certainly helps that there has been a boost in morale around the club following two unexpected victories.

Michael Carrick can match Ruben Amorim’s longest winning run at Man Utd

The priority at United this week has been the upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham. It is a chance for Carrick to win three consecutive games, a feat Amorim managed just once during his 14 month reign at Old Trafford.

Fulham won’t be pushovers when they visit Old Trafford. Their recent form is decent, and they will be doing their utmost to cause an upset in the race for a Champions League spot.

A win for United would see Carrick achieve a feat that took Amorim 47 matches, by winning three games on the bounce.

Amorim achieved that once as United head coach, in October, when United enjoyed one of their strongest spells of a topsy-turvy campaign.

Now, Carrick has a good chance to equal that record in just three games.

This signals a huge improvement, but United have yet to get the job done. Anything less than three points this weekend would be considered a setback.

United can also match last season’s goal tally if they score three goals against Fulham.

Who did Man Utd beat during winning run in October?

Amorim’s best run as United head coach saw him beat Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.

United started October with a 2-0 win over Sunderland before taking three points from Liverpool at Anfield, two weeks later.

The Red Devils made it three wins on the bounce with a 4-2 victory over Brighton, who would later knock United out of the FA Cup in the third round.
