The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip with a few days left of the January transfer window.

Rennes youngster Kader Meité is set to move to Al Hilal just days after he was linked with a shock move to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

There was a feeling that United's name was being used to drum up interest in the teenager and that has proven to be the case ahead of his proposed move to Saudi Arabia. Meité is a centre-forward and has scored three goals in 17 league appearances this season for Rennes. United never expected to do any major business this month, with their primary focus on a refresh in the summer.

Meite set for Al Hilal transfer

Manchester World revealed on Thursday that a move to Al Hilal appeared to be the more likely destination for Kader Meité and that has proved to be the case. The 18-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United but is now set to move to Saudi Arabia in a deal worth the reported €30million (£26m) price tag.

Taking to social media on Thursday afternoon, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano issued an update on the move and even used his infamous 'here we go!' catchphrase to indicate an official announcement was close. "Kader Meïté to Al Hilal, here we go! Agreement in place with Rennes and also player side right now," he wrote on X. "Fee around €30m, 18 year old talent picks Al Hilal and Simone Inzaghi’s project seen as ideal step despite approaches from Premier League clubs. Meïté set for medical next."

United do not expect to conduct any major transfer business in the final days of the January transfer window, with their primary focus on a rebuild in the summer. United have prioritised a midfield refresh this year, while they are also in the market for a left winger and reinforcement at full-back.

They have not completely ruled out a late move for a midfielder this month, though it is still deemed unlikely. The club have reiterated they do not want to sign any short-term solutions and would prefer to spend their money on long-term additions to their squad in the summer. However, there is a concern that they are light in central midfield, and one injury could hamper their hopes of Champions League qualification.
