Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has until the end of the January transfer window to bolster his ranks
Crystal Palace lost 3-1 at home to Chelsea last time out. Defender Chris Richards got their goal at Selhurst Park but they weren’t able to get anything from the game. The Eagles are sat in 15th place in the Premier League table after 23 fixtures.
Oliver Glasner’s side are winless in their last 11 matches in all competitions. They return to league action this weekend as they look to return to winning ways. An away trip to Nottingham Forest awaits on Sunday.
Liverpool transfer update regarding Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton
Liverpool could see Wharton as someone to bolster their midfield department but Jacobs’ update suggests a deal isn’t close right now. If he joined, he would give them more quality into the middle of the park. He is still young and has potential to get even better down the line.
Jacobs added: “Wharton has made no secret of the fact he wants to play Champions League football and Palace must therefore persuade him it's worth staying for at least an extra year. That's basically what happened with Michael Olise before his Bayern move, which is why Palace haven't yet given up on breakthrough extension talks.
“But I think plenty of clubs are anticipating Wharton as a viable target for this summer. Manchester United, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have all made calls. Wharton was also a name put forward by some senior members of Spurs' recruitment team. Yet with Fabio Paratici leaving for Fiorentina after this window, and Thomas Frank still under pressure, it remains to be seen if Spurs' interest is followed up even though finding another midfielder remains a high priority for the club.”
Crystal Palace signed Wharton in January 2024 and he has since adapted well to the step up to the top flight. Prior to his switch to South London, he rose into Blackburn Rovers’ first-team. He helped Glasner’s men win the FA Cup last year.
