Steve Holland appears to have played a huge role in Michael Carrick's impressive start to life as Manchester United interim head coach. The former England assistant became part of Carrick's backroom staff with United winning their last two games against bitter rivals Manchester City and table-toppers Arsenal.

The latter victory was secured in dramatic fashion with United continuing to attack even after Mikel Merino's 82nd minute equaliser with Matheus Cunha smashing home a late winner. While many would have basked in the glory of such a big victory, though, Holland was already looking ahead.

According to BBC Sport, he and Carrick went through clips from that seismic triumph with a source quoted in the report stating that "football is his life." That was in order to come up with a plan for this weekend's Premier League clash against Fulham.

The source added: "Whether it's Champions League, thoughts on players or something else, he has a hell of a brain when it comes to football detail." The following day, Holland and other members of United's coaching team were in at Carrington to further prepare for the impending visit of Marco Silva's side to Old Trafford.

The United players had been given the day off, but several staff members were still present as they attempted to hone the sessions that will take place throughout the week. Holland, the oldest member of United's coaching staff, looks to be using his experience in the game to help United.

BBC Sport have also claimed he is a man of few words and is someone that is difficult to read. Another source has been quoted in their report stating: "You never knew whether he was quietly content or silently raging," admitted a source who has worked with him.

Though that often makes him hard to read, the impact of that is shown when the 55-year-old does speak with it then more likely those he is speaking to listen and take on board his words.

And he has already been receiving high praise with former United and England captain Wayne Rooney seemingly predicting that would be the case when his arrival was confirmed.

Speaking on BBC Sport's The Wayne Rooney Show, he said: "I think Steve Holland's a really good appointment, as well. I worked with him with England and, tactically, he's very good. So yeah, we're all in hope, as well."

While Holland is, perhaps, best known for his spell with England, he spent an impressive 17 years at Crewe with former Radio Stoke editor Graham McGarry making his feelings clear on the impact he is having.

He said: "He won't be bothered about the scrutiny and pressure at Manchester United. He will take that all in his stride and just do his job.

"His training sessions are fantastic. You can already see the Manchester United players are responding to them."

It is still early days at United for Holland, but it is clear to see the impact he has had in such a short amount of time.
