Rhys Bennett and Ethan Wheatley latest as Manchester United ramp up exits ahead of transfer deadline

Expect several Manchester United players to leave the club ahead of transfer deadline day, loan or permanent.

January 2026 has been a busy month in the dugout for Manchester United but a slow one with regard to the transfer window.

The final few days of the window will be busier, not in terms of incomings but with a steady flow of outgoings.

Eight youth players’ loan deals were either cut short or expired, and United are working to find new deals for the majority of them.

And there were other players who were not already out on loan who also need moves.

Business to date

Harry Amass has been set up with a new loan at Norwich City after his spell at Sheffield Wednesday expired. He has already made his debut at his new club.

Work is ongoing at United to find new loans ahead of the February 2 deadline, and it’s possible there might be permanent exits too.

More moves ahead

Rhys Bennett is in talks with Fleetwood Town over a return to the club where he spent the 2024/25 season on loan.

The former FA Youth Cup winning centre-back suffered personal tragedy last year with the death of his father.

Now he is looking to get his career back on track and The MEN report that talks are ongoing over his exit.

Bennett could leave permanently or on loan. A loan deal could also include a clause to become permanent. The various options are being explored.

Ethan Wheatley spent the first half of the season out on loan at Northampton Town, where he scored three goals and provided one assist.

Wheatley is on the cusp of a loan to Bradford City. Their opponents this weekend are Doncaster Rovers and their manager Grant McCann said in his press conference that he believes Bradford’s Wheatley loan move is complete.

Other moves in the pipeline include Toby Collyer who is in talks with Hull City over a loan, while Sekou Kone has been spending time at Lausanne with a view to a possible loan.
