Manchester United look set to miss out on one of Ligue 1’s brightest attacking prospects. Despite multiple links in the press, Rennes sensation Kader Meite is reportedly on the verge of signing for Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal.
It has been a quiet winter transfer window for Manchester United as we approach the deadline on Monday.
The Red Devils used the winter market to sign Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu last year, but it now looks unlikely that they will make any additions this month.
Michael Carrick would welcome squad investment, but his deal runs until the end of the season. United don’t want to waste any money that could be spent on improving the team in the summer.

Earlier this month, United missed out on Antoine Semenyo and enquired about Carlos Baleba. They could revisit the latter in the summer because Brighton are unwilling to do business now.
United are expected to bolster their ranks in midfield, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be additions made in defence and attack.
A lot will depend on who becomes the head coach and what views they have on the current squad.

Al Hilal close in on Kader Meite amid Man Utd links
Stade Rennais striker Kader Meite is one of the latest names linked with a move to United.
That speculation could be put to rest for the foreseeable future following reports that Meite could be on the move from France this month.
Meite was seen as a potential target for United after scoring three goals in Ligue 1 at the age of 18, but United already have exciting prospects in their youth ranks like Chido Obi.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Kader Meite is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in a deal worth around £25 million (€30m).
The French youth international has been linked with a move away from Rennes, but a move could now materialise with Al Hilal set to sign the talented prospect.
United’s current striker options include Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee, although Bryan Mbeumo has led the line in recent wins over Man City and Arsenal.
Meite’s move to Saudi Arabia means he leaves Europe at a very early stage of his career. That means sacrificing the chance to compete in the Champions League.

Man Utd were linked with Al Hilal ace
Earlier this month, Ruben Neves emerged as a United target when it was suggested that the Portugal international could return to Europe.
That was before Neves signed a new deal at Al Hilal, snubbing the chance to return to the Premier League to sign for United.
It was never set in stone that United would move for the former Wolves ace, although the fact that he is Premier League proven made him an option worth considering.
Meite could now link up with Neves, Darwin Nunez, Marcos Leonardo and Theo Hernandez if he completes a transfer to Al Hilal.
