Aston Villa boss Unai Emery addressed a question about joining Real Madrid after the 3-2 win over RB Salzburg.
Unai Emery’s answer was short and sweet when he was asked about speculation linking him with a sensational move to Real Madrid.
Aston Villa’s head coach has reportedly gained the attention of Los Blancos, having his name etched in the managerial shortlist if the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners decide to part ways with Alvaro Arbeloa.
It has been a shaky start for Arbeloa, as Real were dumped out of the Copa del Rey by second-tier Albacete and recently missed out on a top-eight Champions League league phase position with a shock 4-2 defeat away at Jose Mourinho’s Benfica.
Emery coy on Real Madrid links
There’s no wonder Emery, who has guided Villa to seventh, fourth and sixth-placed finishes since taking the reins from previous boss Steven Gerrard, is gaining the attention of top clubs around the world. Real Madrid may well be among those, but Emery doesn’t even want to entertain the topic right now. At least in front of the media.
"Nothing to say about it,” Emery said, with a shrug of the shoulders. That answer could mean anything, really.
Emery hasn’t exactly ruled out a move to Real Madrid there, but he’s also not added any fuel to the fire. Right now, it’s very much a situation of waiting and seeing. What is for sure, though, Emery won’t just give up on his Villa commitments, regardless of who comes knocking. Even Real Madrid.
