United legend Carrick made his sensational return to the Premier League club earlier this month after Ruben Amorim was finally sacked as Man Utd manager.

Ruben Amorim’s 14-month spell as Man Utd head coach ended after the 41-year-old former Sporting CP manager fell out with the Ineos regime at Old Trafford.

Darren Fletcher had stepped in as caretaker manager of the United first-team squad for two matches before Ineos brought Carrick in until the end of the current season.

Gary Neville teamed up with Paul Scholes, who stepped in for Jamie Carragher, for their latest Premier League predictions on The Overlap’s flagship football podcast.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Neville suggested that Carrick and Co have a “different type of test” awaiting them on Sunday afternoon against Fulham.

“This is a different type of test on Sunday, which is interesting, but I think they’ll come through it,” he said.
