Middlesbrough are said to have had a scout in attendance for a Europa League game in Denmark on Thursday evening.
Danish outlet Indkast report that Boro were a club named on the list of scouts present at the game between Midtjylland and Dinamo Zagreb, with the former winning the game 2-0.
It’s said the game was played in sub-zero temperatures, but that didn’t stop the Boro scout from watching on. Representatives from Everton and Ipswich Town were also said to be at the game, ahead of the deadline for the January transfer window on Monday.
At this stage, it’s not known who Boro were there to watch specifically, if they were even there to watch one specific player. Boro are known to take a keen interest in the Scandinavian markets, and therefore could have been taking a more broader scouting mission to just see if any players caught the eye.
Interestingly though, the same publication had a report on December 15 which noted how many times clubs had sent scouts to Midtjylland games in the Autumn, and Boro were high up on that list.

Placing ninth overall - and third of English clubs behind only Everton and Manchester City (the City Group) - Boro scouts had at that point already attended three Midtjylland games.
It would suggest that perhaps Boro are taking a much closer look at one of the Danish side’s players. They currently sit second in the Superliga table and finished third in the Europa League table.
Midtjylland have an exciting young squad, with an average age of just 24. Eight of their nine top appearance makers so far this season are under the age of 24.
Exactly who the player who has attracted Boro’s attention is not known, though it’s worth noting such scouting would not necessarily mean they were watching someone with the intention of signing them in this current transfer window, which closes at 7pm on Monday.
While that couldn’t be ruled out, it’s more likely that it was someone Boro were scouting for down the line. It’s well known that they keep an extensive database of potential future targets so that they’re ready to move on players as and when they feel they need them, or they become available.
