'He's changed his mind'... Manager explains happiness over Man Utd prospect's imminent loan move

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is closing in on another loan move.

One year ago Toby Collyer was starring for Manchester United’s first team. A standout performance in the Europa League against Rangers was the highlight, with the defensive midfielder preferred to Casemiro.

Both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim selected him, but Collyer ultimately fell back down the pecking order.

At the start of this season Collyer signed on loan with West Bromwich Albion. His spell was interrupted by injury and United decided to recall him at the end of December.

United are now pushing for Collyer to secure another loan move, with Hull City leading the chase.

Toby Collyer latest

On January 21, Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic declared, “I think we will complete the deal for Toby this week.”

With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Jakirovic has provided an update and believes Collyer is still heading to Hull.

He explained how he wanted to sign Collyer back in the summer but the United midfielder chose West Brom, and he is glad that the youngster has ‘changed his mind’ about joining Hull.

Jakirovic told BBC Sport: “It’s always a gamble, every player can get injured but I’m optimistic and positive and I wanted Toby in the summer but he chose West Brom as he saw City had an embargo and a salary cap so you are trying to find a calm place to play.

“He’s changed his mind now, seen we’re playing good football and seen he can improve himself here.”

Hull City are in an impressive fourth place in the Championship, occupying one of the playoff spots.

Collyer has been dealing with a calf injury and so it is unclear whether he would be able to make an instant impact.

It is possible this deal is announced at any time between now and the transfer deadline at 7pm on Monday, but one way or another it looks to be trending in the right direction.
