Report: Everton surge into race for "top class" in-demand forward to replace Grealish

Everton are reportedly keen on bringing a promising Premier League talent to Merseyside on loan before the end of the transfer window.

Moyes confirms Grealish surgery

With a new stadium and still a relatively new ownership, Everton have enjoyed a strong if unspectacular start to what can be considered a new era for the club. David Moyes has, after 23 games, steered the Toffees to 10th in the table, though they are just three points away from fifth, so tight is the ongoing Premier League season.

Everton need to react in the transfer market after Jack Grealish picked up an injury that will sideline him for several months.

Harrison Armstrong has performed well since being recalled from his loan at Preston North End, but remains the only bit of business conducted by Everton this winter.

Despite being linked with a number of new signings, the Toffees are yet to officially bring any fresh faces to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January, with just days remaining in the January transfer window.

Moyes was not overly optimistic when discussing his side's chances of recruiting more bodies before the window shuts, saying as per the BBC, ahead of Everton's trip to Brighton: "I'd like to say we're out there looking and I think I've said in every press conference – we're certainly looking and it's not that we're shying away from it. I would say it's probably less likely than likely."

Now, however, the Merseyside club have been touted with making a move for one of the Premier League's most exciting up-and-coming talents.

Everton looking at Chelsea youngster to replace Grealish

Grealish

A loan addition from Manchester City in the summer, Jack Grealish's first six months at Everton were perhaps slightly more underwhelming than many anticipated. Recently, the former Aston Villa man went off injured when the Toffees visited Villa Park, where they won 1-0. Moyes has since confirmed that Grealish is likely to miss the remainder of the campaign due to the foot injury he sustained.

"We believe Jack Grealish is probably going to need surgery. That's still not absolutely confirmed, but it probably rules him out for the rest of the season."

Such news may have sparked Everton to life in the transfer market as now, according to The Athletic, the club have shown interest in signing Tyrique George on loan from Chelsea, but will face lots of competition for his signature.

The teenager has made just 11 appearances for the Blues across all competitions this season and rumours about a potential departure from Stamford Bridge have circulated as January has progressed.

Tyrique-George

When asked about George's future earlier in January, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior said, as per Sports Illustrated: "The honest answer is I don't know. He's been unfortunate. The first game against Charlton, he travelled with the group. He wasn't in the group. Yesterday he was on the bench. I've said this to the players, your background, whether you're an academy player, whether you've been signed for £100m, it's about what you do in training. I have to say his attitude to training and what I've seen his attitude in the group has been top class."

In Grealish's absence, George could become an immediate starter for Everton, who would be signing another dynamic attacker to battle for first-team minutes with the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Tyler Dibling. It is likely that Everton will face significant competition from teams across Europe for George's signature, though the youngster may be swayed by being able to remain in the Premier League.

George has showcased his talent in recent months for the Blues in sporadic bursts, though with Everton, he could have the chance to display his ability for a longer frame of time. Whether a deal is agreed before the window shuts, however, remains to be seen.
