Everton contacted over deadline-busting deal to sign English 'magician' - report

Everton could be set to move for an England international to bolster their midfield ranks, according to reports - with Angel Gomes being offered to the Toffees as he looks to head back to the UK after a six-year hiatus.

Everton have been quiet in the January transfer window, only recording exits for some of their younger players, with no first-team arrivals for David Moyes barring the return of Harrison Armstrong on loan from Preston North End.

The possibility of European football remains on the cards, with the Toffees just one point away from seventh place in the table - and a move for Gomes could propel them to new heights.

Report: Everton 'Offered' Angel Gomes Move Amid Marseille Form

The report by TEAMtalk states that although Wolves are pushing 'hard' to wrap up a deal for Gomes, Everton are also in the race for his signature in a bid to bolster their midfield ranks at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Gomes joined Marseille over the summer after his contract expired at Lille, in what was seen as a 'major coup' for the French side after he had been involved in the England setup under Lee Carsley.

However, Roberto De Zerbi has not got the best out of Gomes just yet, despite his 12 starts from a possible 19 in the league seeing him record three goals.

With that in mind, 'magician' Gomes is open to a return to England as he hopes for a place in Thomas Tuchel's plans for the World Cup this summer and Everton could offer him a route back to the north-west.

David Moyes' men have been approached regarding Gomes' availability, with intermediaries testing the waters in what could be a potential bidding war for the diminutive midfielder. It would be a late window move for the former Manchester United star, and with injury to Charly Alcaraz and most recently Jack Grealish, creativity is needed.

Everton Could Offer Gomes His Big Premier League Chance

It's somewhat bizarre that Gomes hasn't quite had his chance in England yet. Born in London, he was brought up in Manchester and came through United's ranks, playing 10 times across four seasons as he bided his time for first-team football.

That chance never really came. Gomes was loaned out to Portuguese side Boavista, where he blossomed, and that brought about a permanent move to Lille. Over 100 appearances in Ligue 1 saw Les Dogues become regular European qualifiers, and Gomes made his England bow.

Yet even after the best goalscoring form of his career in France, he's now hit 25 years of age, and if he doesn't garner a move to the Premier League shortly, it could well be that he never gets the chance.
