Man United have had a quiet transfer window so far but is Michael Carrick looking to get a few last minute deals done?

Other than Man City, the Premier League has been largely quiet in terms of the January transfer window and the business that has been done.

Ruben Amorim warned that it could be an uneventful few weeks for those of a red persuasion, but with the Champions League now a distinct possibility, there might be a temptation to dip their toes into the market and strengthen in one or two places.

Bryan Mbeumo has looked sharp leading the line, however, goals have been in short supply all season in terms of having a clinical edge. What hasn’t helped Carrick’s cause is seeing Patrick Dorgu suffer a hamstring injury that will see him miss the next few weeks after impressing in a more advanced position.

Michael Carrick reveals Man United transfer plans

With the clock ticking on the transfer window, Carrick has been asked as part of the build-up for Fulham’s trip to Old Trafford - with new signing Oscar Bobb arriving from Man City in time - whether or not he is looking to add a new face or two before Monday’s deadline, via Man United’s website: “I think we are just working through it, never say never. A lot can happen and situations can be thrown up. Sometimes it is in our control, sometimes it is out of our control that we have got to deal with. We are calm, I am pretty calm.

“We have got and we have shown what we are capable of doing as a team. We will have to see what the next few days bring. But we are calm about it.”

Keeping his squad fit seems to be more important than adding to it with departures, probably, the only way that Carrick would see new faces.

Carrick wants one Man United star to stay

One priority is to tie up individuals who had been written off by Amorim but who now, clearly, have a future at United with Fabrizio Romano reporting recently that a new contract is already being considered for a player who so nearly left Old Trafford.

"Michael Carrick is doing a fantastic job, two games in charge, beating Arsenal, beating Man City. Two starts for Kobbie Mainoo, the foundation of Manchester United is this kind of player. He is doing that with facts. Kobbie Mainoo is starting, he is showing his quality once again," Romano said in his latest YouTube video.

"Now I can confirm to you that as soon as the market will close, Man United will start pushing for Kobbie Mainoo new contract. His current contract is not expiring anytime soon, so they are in control of the situation, but they want to show full trust in Kobbie Mainoo. With a new contract, longer deal and a better salary.

"The player never wanted to leave Manchester United on a permanent deal, he just wanted to play. It was always a loan, Napoli almost had a deal done for a straight loan option, no buy option, no obligation, he was always going to return to Manchester United. Now a new contract is going to be the topic."
