Report: Everton could now take Sheffield United star amid 'complicated' contract situation

If Everton are to sign anybody before the 5pm transfer deadline on Monday, it seems likely to be either a new right-back or a striker.

Everton have just made a new bid for Youssef En-Nesyri as David Moyes seeks an upgrade on Beto to challenge Thierno Barry.

In terms of a right-back, Emil Holm and Brooke Norton-Cuffy have been strongly linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium by a variety of Italian sources, although Inter Milan are now pushing to sign the latter.

Napoli also want Holm – so Everton may miss out on both.

However, a backup option has now been named by The Star as Everton keep a close eye on Sheffield United defender Femi Seriki.

What should be Everton’s top priority before the deadline on Monday? 😬

Everton monitoring Femi Seriki

The Star now state that the Toffees are aware of the Sheffield United No.38 as a result of his outstanding performances so far this season.

Seriki has started 15 out of a possible 28 Championship games for the Blades this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists from right-back.

The Star explicitly write that the 23-year-old is an option Everton could pursue if Inter Milan manage to beat the Toffees to Norton-Cuffy.

Everton are also given encouragement as The Star write that Seriki has a “complicated” contract situation at Bramall Lane, with only 12 months to go on his deal once this season ends.

It means his value may never be as high as it is right now for Sheffield United, and if Seriki himself opts to push for a move to Everton, it would presumably result in a sale – or else the Blades risk losing him on a free transfer in 2027 if no contract extension can be agreed.

Femi Seriki risks leaving Everton in a difficult spot

There is no doubt Seriki is a talented prospect, but Everton really need to find a ready-made option to step in and sort out the right-back role.

Sometimes – as Vitalii Mykolenko has shown ever since arriving in 2022 – a talent can fail to live up to their potential, and ends up leaving a club with a bang average player starting every week because too much time and money has been invested into their development.

The signing of Jack Grealish showed how influential it can be when a senior player with experience arrives and is ready to hit the ground running, so Everton should focus on finding someone in that vein as opposed to recruiting a prospect like Seriki.
