Real Madrid are reportedly looking to sign a Man United star before the end of the January transfer window.

Man United are yet to see any major January changes to Michael Carrick’s squad, as United plan to spend big in the summer, when they know who their next long-term manager will be, whether that be Carrick or someone else.

Changes also include player sales, as the only notable departure news is that Casemiro has announced he will leave the club at the end of the season. Man United will be keen to ensure that their other experienced players remain at the club, with so much change happening around the manager position.

However, fresh reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid could make a shock move for one of United’s most experienced players before the end of the January transfer window on Monday.

Spanish reports claim Real Madrid wants Dalot

Diogo Dalot has been a regular starter for Man United throughout his eight-year spell with the club. He’s made over 230 appearances since 2018, and is now back in his natural right-back spot in Carrick’s back four formation. However, he could be on his way to Spain in a shocking late January move.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are “seriously considering” a move for Dalot before the end of the January window. There are concerns over the fitness of Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold, so the report claims that Madrid want to sign a reliable right-back, who can help them towards a La Liga and Champions League title this season under Alvaro Arbeloa.

It is understood that a ‘convincing offer’ could be enough to tempt United to sell the 26-year-old, even though he remains a key part of Carrick’s starting XI. He has an estimated market value of just £24m, but United would likely demand more if he were to leave in the middle of the season.

Dalot has made 21 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Man United want to sign a full-back themselves

If Dalot were to leave, it could accelerate Man United’s desire to sign a new full-back. It is understood that it is a position to target for the Red Devils in the summer, but a Dalot exit may push them to make a move now.

The 22-year-old has made 60 appearances for Frankfurt since joining in January 2024, scoring four goals, and providing an impressive 13 assists. He has also broken out into the Germany national team too this season.
