Report: Everton still keen to sign player they saw £1m bid rejected for back in May

Everton have little need to worry about the goalkeeping department right now.

Jordan Pickford has proven to be a valiant servant for the Toffees ever since his £30m move from Sunderland back in June 2017 – currently sitting on 98 clean sheets in 343 appearances for Everton.

The England international still has many years left at the top at the age of just 31 – but The Friedkin Group seem eager to prepare accordingly for life after Pickford amid interest in Rangers wonderkid Rydnn McGuire.

What do you think was Jordan Pickford’s best ever save for Everton? 🤩

Everton still hoping to sign Rangers stopper Rydnn McGuire

Rangers Review now state that Everton still carry a desire to sign the 17-year-old goalkeeper, having seen a bid worth £1m rejected by the Scottish giants back in May 2025.

It is said that Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on the development of McGuire, along with Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth.

David Moyes currently has Mark Travers and Tom King to call upon in case anything were to happen to Pickford, but the pair are recognised more as emergency options in the short term.

Neither are genuinely considered to be heirs to the Everton No.1’s throne on Merseyside, a role which could well end up going to McGuire if the Toffees manage to sign the Rangers prospect.

It will be difficult for Everton to convince the teenager, however, as Rangers Review state that he is a boyhood fan of the Gers and hopes to replace Jack Butland at Ibrox in future.

Everton can afford to shelve contingency plan for Jordan Pickford

It is admirable that Everton are already thinking about life after Pickford, but in truth, this energy should be put towards other positions, such as weak the full-back department.

Pickford still has a contract running until July 2029 at Everton, and could even stay beyond that point having previously said he wants to “build a legacy” for himself on Merseyside.

The Sunderland academy graduate also spoke about wanting to surpass Neville Southall – who made a whopping 717 appearances for Everton.

Pickford, as aforesaid, currently sits on 343 appearances and is still just 31 years of age, so barring any freak injuries, Everton can afford to put plans to sign a new goalkeeper on ice for now.
