Wolves have until the deadline on Monday to complete any final bits of incoming or outgoing business
Wolves have the chance to sell some players before the end of the January transfer window. That would help free up space and funds in their squad to pave the way for reinforcements. Rob Edwards will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited ranks.
The Midlands outfit lost 2-0 away at Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last time out. They are back in action this weekend against AFC Bournemouth at home. Edwards’ side remain bottom of the Premier League table and are in the bottom three with Burnley and West Ham.
Wolves transfer update regarding Joao Gomes
Manchester United are weighing up a ‘late’ move for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes, according to TEAMtalk. The Red Devils may lodge a bid for the Brazilian over the coming days. They are in the hunt for new faces under interim boss Michael Carrick following their recent upturn in form.
Gomes, 24, made the move to England back in 2024. He is a Brazil international with 10 caps to his name. The Rio de Janeiro-born man rose up through the academy at local side Flamengo and was a regular for them at various youth levels.
He broke into their first-team as a youngster and went on to play 122 games, chipping in with four goals. Wolves then lured him away from South America a couple of years ago and he has since adapted well to life in his new country. He has become one of their most prized assets and has made 112 appearances in all competitions, 23 of which have come this term, and he has found the net on seven occasions.
Will Wolves sell Joao Gomes?
Speaking earlier this month, Edwards didn’t rule out Wolves exits and shared this update: “A lot of the lads want to try and maybe right some of the wrongs and want to help the club. They want to do well, of course for themselves, but for a football club as well. They really are genuinely all committed. That's not saying that no one's going to go, I'm not saying that, I've been consistent with that all the way through. But, it's not like people are banging the door down or trying to force anything. It's not the case."
He added: “They're here and absolutely committed and we'll treat everything on an individual basis. If we think it's the right thing for the club, then we might look at something, but only if it's right for us. We have got good players here, so I'm expecting there to be rumours and speculation, but at the moment that's where it is. We'll deal with something if it was to come along on an individual basis, but I'm under no pressure to sell any of those lads."
Wolves won’t want to lose Gomes, especially halfway through this campaign. However, their hands may be tied if an offer comes in from United that they can’t refuse. He remains under contract at Molineux until the summer of 2030. Crystal Palace have also been linked with him recently.
