West Ham Exclusive From C&H
Reports began circulating yesterday suggesting that West Ham United were considering a move for Angel Gomes, with Marseille prepared to sanction a loan.
The Hammers were heavily linked with the skilful midfielder when he left Lille on a free transfer earlier this summer. However, things have not gone entirely to plan for Gomes in France and it is now public knowledge that Marseille would allow him to leave on a temporary basis.
As a result, as many as seven Premier League clubs have been linked with the former Manchester United academy product, with Wolverhampton Wanderers initially thought to be favourites. That narrative shifted yesterday when claims emerged that West Ham were close to hijacking a move to Molineux.
Late last night, Claret & Hugh spoke directly to an agent involved in Gomes’ move to France to establish whether there was any truth in the renewed West Ham interest. The response was blunt and unequivocal.

Midfield Reinforcement Still Unclear
It has to be said the news is somewhat disappointing, given Gomes’ obvious technical ability and creativity. However, the message from those close to the player was crystal clear.
If West Ham are to sign a midfielder before the window closes — and that remains far from certain — it will not be Angel Gomes.
