West Brom have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some new faces
West Brom have recently turned to Eric Ramsay as their new boss. He was picked as their replacement for Ryan Mason, who was sacked after an inconsistent run of form. Ex-Manchester United coach Ramsay left Minnesota United in MLS to take over at The Hawthorns.
He has picked up one point from his first three games in charge of the Baggies. They drew 1-1 away at Derby County at Pride Park last time out. Here is a look at what their starting XI could look like after the January transfer window, if the rumours are true....
West Brom starting XI if the transfer rumours are true: goalkeeper and defence
Goalkeeper: Sebastian Jurado
Centre-backs: Luke O’Nien, Nat Phillips
Full-backs: Joseph Rosales, George Campbell
West Brom have been linked with a move for FC Juarez goalkeeper Sebastian Jurado this winter, via Fox Sports in Mexico. QPR have also been credited with an interest in the stopper. If he joined, he would battle it out with the likes of Max O’Leary, Joe Wildsmith and Josh Griffiths for a place in their team.
The Baggies are said to be keen on Sunderland centre-back Luke O’Nien, according to the Chronicle, along with Birmingham City and Coventry City. He remains under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2027. The versatile defender helped the Black Cats gain promotion from the second tier last year under Regis Le Bris and if he signed for Ramsay’s side, he could partner Nat Phillips at the back.
At right-back, George Campbell competes with Alfie Gilchrist for game time. The Midlands outfit are reportedly interested in Austin FC left-back Joseph Rosales, says journalist Gustavo Roca. The 25-year-old played under Ramsay at Minnesota.
West Brom starting XI if the transfer rumours are true: midfield and attack
Midfielders: Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Nectarios Triantis
Wingers: Mikey Johnston, Karlan Grant
Attacking midfield: Isaac Price
Strikers: Aune Heggebo
Further up the pitch, Mikey Johnston and Karlan Grant inject pace into their team. Meanwhile, Isaac Price is someone who has the quality to unlock opposition defences. He is a Northern Ireland international with 26 caps to his name and at the age of 22, he has bags of potential to improve in the future. The attacking midfielder joined his current club from Standard Liege, having previously been on the books at Everton in the Premier League.
Aune Heggebo was snapped up by the Baggies last summer to add more firepower to their options up top. Prior to his switch to England, he caught the eye in his native Norway at SK Brann. He has since adapted well to life in England and has fired nine goals in 27 outings.
