Burnley boss Scott Parker confirms double injury boost ahead of Sunderland trip

Sunderland host Burnley at the Stadium of Light on Monday.

The Black Cats host the Clarets hoping to make amends for the 2-0 defeat they suffered at Turf Moor earlier in the season, and are also looking to return to winning ways having slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham last time out.

For their part, Burnley are fighting for their lives near the foot of the table, and are currently 10 points away from safety despite having secured hard-fought points against Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur in their last three outings.

And speaking in a pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Parker stated that he is expecting to have both Zian Flemming and Joe Worrall back in contention to feature in the North East.

What did Burnley boss Scott Parker say ahead of Premier League clash vs Sunderland?

The Burnley head coach said: “Both players should be back and available after training. They've had a full 10 days now, or a week of training, so they're in a good place. So both Flem and Joe will be available, so that's good for us.”

Elsewhere, talismanic midfielder Josh Cullen remains sidelined, but Parker did confirm that he has no other fresh injury issues to contend with. He said: “No, nothing else. Clean. Everyone else is fit, that I can think of now, off the top of my head. Everyone else is in a good place really, so yeah, we're good.”

Parker also spoke about the arrival of James Ward-Prowse, who completed a loan move from West Ham to Turf Moor earlier this week. Reflecting on what he hopes the experienced midfielder can add to his squad, the Clarets boss continued: “I think first and foremost, he’ll bring a quality. I think, obviously, we've seen James play in numerous games in the Premier League, he brings a know-how and has been at the level, professional-wise as well, in terms of what he represents and what he stands for.

“I think he'll be a very good addition for us, really. So, we needed some cover in there with, obviously, Josh coming out with a long-term injury, and we've done that. I feel that we've recruited someone who's going to be valuable to us, so get him up to speed now, see how he is in the coming days in terms of actual work and where he is, but we're pleased with that signing.”
