Deal to take player to Nottingham Forest in final stage – Player determined to move

Nottingham Forest want to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega before the winter market closes on Monday.

That’s according to Sky Deutschland, who now report Nottingham Forest are in advanced negotiations with Manchester City.

The 33-year-old moved to Manchester City on a free transfer in July 2022. He played 56 matches, keeping 25 clean sheets and conceding 51 goals.

James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma’s arrivals at the Etihad last summer has seen the German drop further down the pecking order. Pep Guardiola hasn’t handed Ortega a single appearance for Manchester City this season.

Earlier this month, we covered claims from Germany of Bayer Leverkusen’s interest. He won’t be joining them in this window as the Bundesliga side took Jonas Omlin on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Ortega has less than six months left on his contract but wants to leave Manchester City in this window. Nottingham Forest want to open their door and are in ongoing discussions with their Premier League counterpart.

According to Sky, Sean Dyche’s side haven’t reached a final agreement with Manchester City. As well as Nottingham Forest, he has other options, including unnamed clubs outside England. He will consider other options if a move to the City Ground doesn’t materialise.

RTL/ntv and sport.de backs up Sky’s claim and share additional updates. According to them, the deal to take the Manchester City player to the City Ground is ‘on the home stretch’.

In other words, this operation is in the final stage. The report makes it clear the transfer hasn’t been closed yet.

Ortega, for his part, is open to moving to another the Premier League side. A transfer to Nottingham Forest means the ‘distance to his current home in Manchester isn’t too great.’
