The Cuiabano saga now looks close to its end. According to ESPN Brazil, the Nottingham Forest left-back has made his position clear and does not want to return to Brazil at this stage.
The answer came after a recent enquiry from Cruzeiro. The club were sounding out options after selling both starting left-backs, Kauã Prates (Dortmund) and Kaiki (Como). As reported by local journalist André Hernan, Forest relayed the player’s response: Cuiabano ruled out a move back to Brazilian football for now.
ESPN sources also stress an important nuance. While Cuiabano wants to remain in Europe, that does not necessarily mean staying at Forest.
The left-back is open to leaving the Premier League club if it allows him to find regular minutes at another European side. So far, the only European side linked with him during this winter window is Marinakis’ own Olympiacos.
Although the feedback addressed Cruzeiro directly, its impact goes further. The same position effectively closes the door on other Brazilian clubs, including Vasco da Gama, who had pushed hard in recent weeks and reshaped proposals to meet Forest’s demands.
That context matters. Vasco had advanced talks, aligned personal terms and reached a stage where Forest felt comfortable with the financial structure. Even so, the player’s stance reshapes the picture. The priority is Europe, not a return home.
In short, the Brazilian chapter appears closed. Cuiabano has given his answer, and it applies well beyond Cruzeiro.
