Fabrizio Romano: Nottingham Forest making 'last minute move' for player, he's 'already said yes'

Fabrizio Romano has shared one player's green-light as he says 'yes' to joining Nottingham Forest, with the Tricky Trees making a 'last minute' January move.

Nottingham Forest attempt to back Sean Dyche with key deals

It's been a busy last 24 hours at the City Ground, with Sean Dyche's side looking to make amends after news they're likely to miss out on Crystal Palace striker Jean Philippe-Mateta.

The Frenchman was believed to be on the verge of a Forest move at one point, but AC Milan have jumped to the front of the queue for his signature after agreeing personal terms with Mateta.

The 28-year-old now seems poised to join the Rossoneri with Milan in ongoing talks.

After this transfer blow, Forest have moved on to other targets.

Indeed, Forest have intensified their deadline day preparations by securing Inter Milan's buy-in of a loan deal for Italy international midfielder Davide Frattesi, with the move now resting entirely on the player's final decision.

Sky Italia reported on Friday evening that Inter have accepted Forest's proposal for Frattesi on loan with an option to buy, despite the Nerazzurri previously insisting they would only entertain permanent offers.

The Midlands club aren't done with their transfer business...

Reports in Italy suggest that Frattesi has already given his approval to a City Ground switch, clearing the pathway for final negotiations between the clubs to conclude pretty soon.

The midfielder has struggled for consistent starting opportunities this season under Cristian Chivu, making just 19 appearances across all competitions without registering any goals, though he has contributed three assists.

Frattesi's limited game time has raised concerns for Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso, who is reportedly monitoring the situation closely.

His last Serie A start came against Cremonese on October 4, 16 matchdays ago, highlighting his peripheral role at the San Siro this campaign.

Beyond Frattesi, it is now being reported that Forest are closing in on a new goalkeeper.

Nottingham Forest agree deal for Man City stopper Stefan Ortega

According to Romano, via X, it is now a 'here we go' as the club complete a last-gasp deal for the German.

Forest did hold talks with the likes of Jose Sa and other goalkeeping targets, but it is Ortega who has approved a switch with the 33-year-old on his way for a medical.

The keeper is third in Pep Guardiola's pecking order behind both Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford. Considering Ortega's deal was also due to expire this summer, a departure was always on the cards this month.

Despite his lack of chances at the Etihad, whenever the ex-1860 Munich star has played, he's never let City down.

His best contribution in a City shirt came at the end of the 2023/2024 season, when he saved a one-on-one from Tottenham legend Son Heung-min, in what was a massive moment in the Premier League title race.

Guardiola lavished his then-second choice keeper after the heroic stop, calling him 'world-class'.

"Ortega is a world-class goalkeeper," Guardiola said after the game.

"An exceptional, exceptional goalkeeper. Ederson did not have concussion, he had a problem with his eye. He could not see properly so the doctor said I should change."
