Michael Carrick would ask the Manchester United board to keep Marcus Rashford at the club if he was appointed as the new permanent manager this summer, according to The Telegraph.
The academy graduate left the club last January to join Aston Villa on loan for the rest of last season, before joining Barcelona in the summer on a season-long loan with an option to buy, where he has shone with eight goals and nine assists in 16 starts across La Liga and the Champions League.
The Spanish club are expected to negotiate to keep the England international permanently in the summer, but they don't want to pay the pre-agreed price, and it has now emerged that there may be a route back into the Old Trafford first-team.
Carrick Wants Rashford to Return to Man Utd

Rashford is widely considered to be one of the best academy talents to come out of Carrington in the last decade, but his relationship with the club deteriorated over the last 12 months and a permanent exit looked to be on the cards.
However, it has now emerged that should Carrick be given the manager's job permanently in the summer. then he would look to bring the 28-year-old back into the fold with the first-team.
Carrick and Rashford played together under Louis van Gaal in Rashford's debut campaign, and Carrick was also on the coaching staff under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, when Rashford had some of the best campaigns of his career.
However, with Rashford on a contract that sees him earn in excess of £300,000-a-week, and with the manner of his departure in the summer, it seems highly unlikely that would be a realistic option.
Carrick is currently expected to be in charge until the end of the season after replacing Ruben Amorim on an interim basis, and he has won his first two games in charge against both Manchester City and Arsenal, with impressive performances, which have raised his stock.
Surely No Way Back for Rashford

While bringing Rashford back could be a shrewd bit of business to strengthen the attack, there is surely no way back for him at the club after the things that have happened over the last 18 months.
The fan base would be immediately split over the decision, while it's clear that the board want to get his massive wages off the books by any means necessary.
Carrick is unlikely to get the job anyway, but should he get the job permanently, this feels like a battle he won't win.
