Michael Carrick is targeting a third consecutive victory in his second stint as Manchester United interim manager. His side are set to take on Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Following Ruben Amorim's departure after 14 months in charge being announced in January, Carrick was reappointed to steady the ship until the end of the season. This followed a brief period with Darren Fletcher at the helm.

Having already secured impressive victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, Carrick is strengthening his credentials for the permanent role with each passing fixture. Next up is a Premier League clash with Fulham and Marco Silva's outfit will pose a stern test.

During his brief tenure, Carrick has already implemented several changes and fresh reports indicate he has reached a verdict on the future of Marcus Rashford, who was frozen out under Amorim and is currently on loan at Barcelona. The Manchester Evening News has the latest developments from Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford 'decision' made

Despite showing initial promise under Amorim, academy graduate Rashford swiftly fell out of favour with the Portuguese boss. He moved to Aston Villa on loan last year before securing a summer loan switch to Barcelona.

At the Catalan club, he has rediscovered his form, featuring regularly as a useful squad option and netting several goals under Hansi Flick. Speculation has inevitably surfaced regarding a permanent move.

The Catalan heavyweights have a non-obligatory option to purchase Rashford for £26million at the end of the season. But a recent report from The Telegraph suggests that Carrick is keen to bring him back to Manchester.

The report indicates that if Carrick is appointed as the permanent manager, he would aim to reintegrate Rashford into the United squad. However, the same report implies that Rashford would rather remain in Spain.

Striker seals transfer

In terms of permanent transfers, a young player from United's academy has moved on. Joe Hugill has left the club to join Scottish side Kilmarnock on a full-time basis.

The former Newcastle and Sunderland youth striker signed for United in 2020 and quickly made an impact in the academy. In 2023, he was loaned out to Altrincham.

This initial loan spell was followed by four more, with Hugill turning out for Burton Albion, Wigan, Carlisle United and Barnet in subsequent years before signing an 18-month contract with Kilmarnock this week.

The 22-year-old took to Instagram to bid a heartfelt farewell, writing: "Thank you to everyone at Manchester United for the past 6 years.

"The players, the staff, the fans and everyone connected to the club who have made me love every minute along the way. I will always be beyond grateful for my time here and the memories will live with me forever."
