Liverpool v Newcastle United team news: Bruno Guimaraes is out for Saturday night’s match at Anfield.
Newcastle United will be looking to break two droughts against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday night.
Newcastle haven’t won away at Liverpool in the Premier League since 1994. Eddie Howe’s side also haven’t won a Premier League match without Bruno Guimaraes since the Brazilian joined the club almost exactly four years ago.
The Magpies captain has been ruled out with an ankle injury suffered in the 3-0 win over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last week.

It’s the second successive Premier League match Guimaraes has missed having watched from the stands as Newcastle lost 2-0 to Aston Villa last Sunday.
The Brazilian travelled with the Newcastle United squad to Paris Saint-Germain and was named on the bench in the Champions League clash at Parc des Princes. But that is where the Brazilian remained as he watched on as his teammates held the holders to a 1-1 draw in the French capital.
Despite being part of the matchday squad against PSG, doubt was cast over Guimaraes’ involvement for the Premier League trip to Anfield on Saturday as Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe provided an update on the Brazilian’s fitness.
“Slightly unknown at the moment,” Howe said when asked if Guimaraes would be involved at Liverpool. “I’d say he did really well to be with us in Paris - I think that is more down to him being desperate to be there and support the players. We did very, very light training and he participated in that, but it was next to nothing to be honest.
“He trained with us [Thursday] but that was more of a [fitness] test. We’ll see how he is today. This will be the day where we really decide.”

Newcastle United’s official website confirmed Guimaraes’ absence upon the reveal of the team news for the match at Anfield.
The club wrote: “Newcastle can go above the Reds with victory but will need to do so without regular skipper Bruno Guimarães, who is not risked.
“He was an unused substitute in Paris but is not fully recovered from the ankle injury which forced him off against PSV earlier in the month.”

Newcastle have made three changes from the side that drew 1-1 at PSG on Wednesday with Kieran Trippier coming in for Lewis Miley, Harvey Barnes coming in for Sven Botman and Anthony Gordon replacing Nick Woltemade up front.
