Bye-bye Strand Larsen: Wolves in talks to sign “clinical” CF who'd be perfect for Mane - opinion

It is fascinating to see what the future will hold for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Norwegian has not been at his best this season, with just one goal in the Premier League, which came from the penalty spot, not open play.

Yet, as Wolves still sit at the bottom of the Premier League table, there is interest in their number nine from fellow top-flight clubs.

Crystal Palace had agreed a £50m deal for Strand Larsen, but that move has yet to go through, and other sides are now sniffing around too. It does seem like he could leave Molineux, though.

If that is the case, Wolves need a new striker and are seemingly lining up someone with PL experience.

Wolves targeting Strand Larsen replacement

There are a few players the Old Gold are seemingly targeting to help strengthen their squad. One of those is Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, who is said to be of interest to the club, despite being wanted by Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

Perhaps more realistically, however, the West Midlands side are linked with a move for Torino and Scotland striker Che Adams.

According to TEAMTalk, the club have already held conversations about a potential move back to the Premier League.

Indeed, those supposed “positive talks” could see the move progress, with Adams said to be keen on a move back to the Premier League.

A price is not yet clear, but Football Transfers have valued the striker as high as £10m, so it would not be a deal that breaks the bank.

Why Adams would be perfect for Mane

45-cap Scotland international Adams would add plenty of Premier League experience and bring goals to the table at Molineux if he were to join.

He’s outscored Strand Larsen this season and has generally impressed in Turin, with 20 goals and assists in 62 games.

Torino's Che Adams

Indeed, this season, the 29-year-old has bagged five goals and chipped in with an assist, too. He recently bagged two goals against Roma in the Coppa Italia to help secure his side a 3-2 win in the Round of 16.

It is not just the goalscoring numbers where Adams outperforms Strand Larsen. In top-flight football this term, he is averaging a better conversion rate per 90 minutes, with 12% to 6%, and works harder off the ball, shown by his 2.7 ball recoveries compared to The Norwegian’s 1.

That Premier League experience, which Adams will bring to Molineux, could be vital as they look to survive relegation against all odds.

He has 24 goals and 14 assists in the top flight to date, with his best campaign coming in 2020/21 for Southampton, registering 14 goal involvements.

This is a signing that could massively benefit Wolves starlet Mateus Mane. The 18-year-old has been a shining light in this poor campaign, breaking through under Rob Edwards in recent weeks to establish himself as a key player.

Mane, who was born in Portugal but represents England at youth level, has two goals and two assists in 12 Premier League games.

The attacker has shone with his carrying ability and creativity going forward.

Pairing him up with a player like Adams could benefit him in two ways. Firstly, he can learn from the Scot, helping enhance his own attacking game thanks to someone who's played top-flight football in England and Italy.

Secondly, they could form a deadly combination. Not only is the Wolves teenager a brilliant dribbler, but he’s also shown creativity and sharp link-up play in the final third.

Playing behind a smaller number nine who might be looking to make darting runs in behind could be a perfect combination.

Che-Adams-1

Described as a “clinical” finisher on his day by Statman Dave, Adams could be the perfect addition for Wolves.

Not only could he replace Strand Larsen well, but the partnership he may be able to form with Mane is something that could, at the very least, make for exciting viewing.
