Leeds hold talks to re-sign 'incredible' forward in late £25m deal - report

Leeds United have held talks over a deal to re-sign Burnley star Jaidon Anthony this month in a deadline-busting deal, according to Sports Boom.

The Whites have had a decent season so far as they battle to stay in the Premier League and avoid an immediate return to the Championship, having been on an impressive run of form in recent months since Daniel Farke switched away from a 4-3-3 system to a back five.

Having already added Facundo Buonanotte to the squad during the January transfer window, while they are also pushing to add a new striker to the squad, it has emerged that a new winger is being targeted too, and Farke is keen to add a familiar face to the dressing room.

Leeds Hold Talks to Sign Anthony

Jaidon Anthony

Anthony, who has been described as 'incredible', spent the season on loan at Elland Road during the 2023/24 season, as Farke's side narrowly missed out on promotion after defeat in the playoffs final.

This season though, while playing for Burnley, Anthony has been one of their brightest sparks in attack and has registered five goals and one assist in the Premier League, more than any other player in the squad.

Those performances, mixed with Burnley's precarious position in the league table, has seen clubs open talks about trying to take him away from Turf Moor this month, with Leeds among the clubs showing an interest.

It's understood that Scott Parker's side don't want to lose the 26-year-old, and have slapped an asking price of between £21m-25m on his head to try and fend off the interested parties. That has made a late exit highly unlikely, however, it has not been entirely ruled out.

Even if a move doesn't materialise this month, it's now anticipated that Anthony could emerge as one of the most sought-after players from the Burnley squad in the summer once their expected relegation is confirmed.

Leeds Can Do Better Than Anthony

Daniel Farke

When Anthony was at Elland Road in the Championship he was considered to be a rotation option under Farke, and considering how the squad has improved since then, it's hard to see how he'd be anything more important if he returned.

Wilfried Gnonto, Noah Okafor, Brendan Aaronson and Daniel James are all able to play out wide and are better than Anthony. A new striker should be, and is, the priority to strengthen the squad before Monday's deadline, and it would be a weird move to pivot to someone who isn't better than current options instead.
