Leeds United striker makes feeling clear on 'internal proposal' that would see him join Rangers

The former Swansea City forward, who moved to Elland Road for £12m in 2023, has been linked with a switch to Ibrox.

We are now in the final days of the January transfer window and time is fast running out for clubs across the country to get their mid-season business completed.

Rangers have already had a positive month with Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen the marquee capture by the Ibrox club. It appears they are far from done though with Danny Rohl seemingly keen to add even more new faces.

However, they may have hit a dead end when it comes to their chances of landing one particular reported striker target. That’s after a recent report seemingly poured cold water on an potential transfer for the player.

Leeds United forward Joel Piroe makes feelings clear on possibility of joining Rangers

According to a report from TeamTalk, Leeds United striker Joel Piroe has told the Yorkshire club he is not interested in a move to Rangers during the January transfer window. That comes after a reported ‘internal proposal’ was pushed by Leeds to have the 26-year old join the Ibrox side.

The two clubs are of course linked by their owners, 49ers Enterprises. However, that appears to have not held much sway when it comes to Piroe who joined Leeds in 2023 in a £12 million move from Swansea City.

The former PSV attacker, who has been capped by the Netherlands up to under 20 international level, scored 33 goals across 97 appearances for Swansea. It was that form that initially attracted Leeds to him and saw them make the move to secure his services.

Things have changed since he joined and it is now claimed that Leeds are seeking to sign an ‘upgrade’ on the 26 year old before the January transfer window closes. Despite that, it appears that he remains keen to stay at Elland Road and fight for regular minutes.

Piroe seemingly keen to remain at Leeds after EFL Championship offers knocked back

Rangers are apparently not the only club who the Dutch striker has turned down the chance to join. EFL Championship sides Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough also reportedly made bid to try and sign him which the player himself is said to have turned down.

It is also claimed that Leeds want to move him on this window. Wolves forward Jørgen Strand Larsen has been reported as the player that United want to bring in to replace Piroe.

It remains to be seen what the closing days of the window hold, and a change of mind is always possible, but it may be the case that Rangers decide to move on to other targets. Piroe was also linked with Glasgow rivals Celtic earlier in the month but those rumours were quickly shut down with the owners of Leeds and Rangers not wanting to strengthen one of their rivals.
