A look at the transfers West Ham might get over the line before the January window closes.

West Ham’s early-season struggles slowly seem to be abating, and a recent rash of positive results has raised hopes that they may yet be able to beat the drop – and the club have been active in the January transfer window as they work to cement their continued Premier League status.

The signings of two strikers, Taty Castellanos and Pablo, are likely to end up as the biggest deals that the Hammers strike this winter, but there may yet be further moves before Monday’s deadline passes – and we’ve taken a look at the two deals which could get over the line before the window slams shut. Nobody ever closes them carefully, do they?

Chelsea defender on West Ham shortlist as deadline day nears

West Ham have been tentatively linked with several defenders over the course of January, but most of those links have gone cold – for instance, their interest in Charlie Creswell doesn’t seem likely to go anywhere with the former Leeds centre-back likely to remain at Toulouse until the summer.

It doesn’t look like Nuno Espirito Santo wants the deadline to pass without adding some reinforcements at the back, however, and that’s led the club to make a move for Chelsea’s versatile Axel Disasi, who remains unwanted at Stamford Bridge despite being welcomed back to first-team training under new manager Liam Rosenior.

BBC Sport are among the media outlets reporting that contact has been made ahead of a potential loan deal, and while other sides from the continent are also reportedly interested in the Frenchman, a deal to West Ham looks eminently plausible as it stands.

Disasi struggled to make his mark at either Chelsea or Aston Villa, with whom he spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan, but would offer depth in the centre of defence and at right-back.

Wide forward an option as West Ham consider late January deals

If there’s one other position in which West Ham might seek new faces, it’s on the flanks – not only is there a need for fresh competition across the front three, but there is still a chance that winger Crysencio Summerville leaves for Spurs before the end of the window.

A few names have cropped up in the gossip columns, and it’s possible that West Ham rival Fulham in the bidding for PSV’s Ricardo Pepi, but that deal is complicated to get done with the Dutch club playing hardball with negotiations despite the fact that Pepi recently broke his arm. We suspect it’s more likely that the Hammers look elsewhere.

The Hammers are certainly among the clubs considering offering a contract to another recent Chelsea outcast, Raheem Sterling. They aren’t alone in debating the pros and cons of a bid for the England international winger, whose mutually terminated his deal with the Blues last week, but his preference to stay in the capital would give West Ham an appreciable edge if they did enter the fray.

It could well be that the Hammers have another target up their sleeve, but Sterling is among the more accessible and available options, especially if he’s willing to accept a short-term deal.
