The Germany midfielder put the Seagulls ahead against Everton with his first goal since returning from Borussia Dortmund.
He was substituted a minute from the end of added time and could only watch as Beto equalised.
As goalscorer, Gross was put forward for interview by broadcast media and could not contain his annoyance at how the game ended.
He referred to the previous Saturdays defeat at Fulham as he told Sky Sports: “It is the second week in a row we suffer basically with the last kick of the game.
“That is something where look into the mirror and we really have to improve.
“It is about game management.
“I know we have a lot of young players but we as a team need to be better.
“The players on the pitch need to solve those situations better.
“In the Premier League you can’t allow a team back into the game in those circumstances.”
Gross scored when Albion last beat Everton at the Amex, back in 2019-20.
Beto’s goal meant the Toffees have picked up three wins and three draws at the stadium since then.
Gross told BBC Radio Sussex: “You need to play the game smart. You need to do everything for the team to protect the three points.
“We know hard it is to get those three points.
“We deserved them, probably, but the Premier League is ruthless.
“We need to sit down and speak about game management.
“You need to understand what time of the game it is.
“We can’t play the same if it is the tenth minute or the last minute of the game or if we are 1-0 up or 1-0 down.
“There are certain ways you have to do it.
“You win one more throw, you take the pace out of the game.
“You need to play it smart and we need to grow fast.”
