The latest Wolves transfer news ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on the signing of Angel Gomes from Olympique Marseille.

The Old Gold have been keeping close tabs on Gomes and have now made their move, striking an agreement with Marseille to bring the versatile former England international midfielder to Molineux before Monday’s transfer deadline.

This is the case, at least, according to transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano. The Italian journalist has given the deal his famous ‘here we go’ status, reporting a €1 million (£865,000) fee has been agreed for Gomes to join on loan for the rest of the season, while there’s also a €7 million (£6m) option to buy clause.

Marseille are said to have approved the transfer, with manager Roberto De Zerbi fine to let Gomes leave. As long as the formal steps and the documents are completed in time, then Gomes will become a Wolves player, likely either today or tomorrow.

Wolves have been rumoured to be in talks to sign Gomes since the start of last week, with negotiations seemingly ongoing behind the scenes to get it over the line. It awaits to be seen what the exact conditions of the buy option clause are, but it’s promising to get such a talented player through the doors.
