Jorgen Strand Larsen faces an uncertain future at Molineux amid strong interest from Crystal Palace and Leeds United
Leeds United have not given up hope in the race for Jorgen Strand Larsen, despite reports of Crystal Palace advancing ahead of them in their pursuit of the Wolves striker.
That’s according to a report from Sky Sports News which claims the West Yorkshire outfit remain in the race to sign the Norwegian international after having an initial offer of £33m plus add-ons turned down earlier in the window.
Strand Larsen appeared as a substitute for Wolves in their recent 2-0 loss to Bournemouth despite the recent uncertainty surrounding his future, but appeared to suggest to supporters that he’d played his last match after being seen applauding the home fans at the final whistle.
Sky Sports journalist William Bitibiri reported: “Jorgen Strand Larsen could be seen applauding the Wolves fans after the full-time whistle on what could be his final appearance at Molineux.
“The striker came on in the 70th minute of a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, replacing Hwang Hee Chan as Wolves chased the game.”
What next for Strand Larsen?
As it stands, Crystal Palace are the hot favourites to sign Strand Larsen amid mounting reports that their current top-scorer Jean Philippe Mateta could be heading to one of either AC Milan or Nottingham Forest after publicly stating his desire to leave.
The Frenchman has been left out of the squad to face Nottingham Forest at the weekend as speculation continues.
The Eagles want a replacement through the door and have set their sights on Strand Larsen, who scored 14 last term, to try and fill that void.
Sky Sports understands Palace tabled an offer of £45m plus £5m in add-ons which was reportedly ‘verbally agreed’ by both parties.
However, there still remains a string of doubt surrounding the final adjustments of that deal, with other sources claiming Palace could walk away from the deal entirely if some of the minor adjustments Wolves have asked for are not resolved in the near future.
Leeds remain interested but are not thought to be willing to go over their valuation of £40m for the player amid PSR concerns.
Rob Edwards provides Strand Larsen update
Following the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, Rob Edwards was quizzed on Strand Larsen’s future. The Wolves boss admits he’ll be involved in the process but failed to confirm whether or not the striker would definitely be leaving.
He told BBC Sport: “We will see. As I said, I don’t have a crystal ball now, I don’t know.
“Some of those things will be out of my control.
“I will be involved in that process, of course, we will see what happens.”
