Newcastle United co-owners release statement after 'clear progress', major appointments & £200m …

Newcastle United co-owners have released a statement following a key period of ‘evolution’ on and off the pitch.

Reuben Brothers Group, the parent company of Newcastle United co-owners RB Sports & Media, have released a statement reflecting on a ‘historic’ past 12 months at the club.

In 2025, Newcastle United ended a 70-year trophy drought by beating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

Eddie Howe’s side followed that up by qualifying for the Champions League with a fifth-place finish in the Premier League. The Magpies have subsequently qualified for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time where they will face Qarabag over two legs later this month.

It’s also been a year of change on and off the pitch with the club agreeing a Premier League record £130million sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool while also spending a record £250million on new signings during the summer window.

Behind the scenes, there has also been plenty of change with the sporting director and chief executive officer roles changing hands. David Hopkinson replaced Darren Eales as CEO, while Ross Wilson was appointed as Paul Mitchell’s successor as sporting director.

Chief commercial officer Peter Silverstone also left the club and has since taken up a role at Serie A side Juventus. While a successor is yet to be appointed, the club are in the process of a commercial restructure that involves the appointment of a chief strategy officer and chief marketing officer in 2026.

The club are also expected to announce plans for a new state-of-the-art training complex, with a £200million budget approved, though new stadium plans have been put on hold.

Reuben Brothers Group took to social media to reflect on an eventful but ultimately successful past 12 months at Newcastle.

Reuben Brothers’ RB Sports & Media own a 15% stake in Newcastle while Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund own the remaining 85% following an ownership restructure in 2024 when Amanda Staveley sold her shares in the club.

On Instagram, Reuben Brothers released a statement, which read: “2025 was a defining year for @nufc, marked by historic achievement and clear progress across the Club.

“The victory at Wembley delivered our first domestic trophy in 70 years, followed by unforgettable scenes as more than 300,000 supporters filled the streets for the Carabao Cup Winners’ Parade, bringing the city together in a shared moment of pride.

“A fifth-place finish in the Premier League secured a return to the @championsleague for the second time in three seasons, reinforcing the Club’s continued rise at the highest level.

“Off the pitch, 2025 was also a year of strategic evolution. The appointments of David Hopkinson and Ross Wilson strengthened the Club’s leadership, while the arrival of Grace Williams and Tanya Oxtoby marked an important step forward for women’s football at Newcastle United.

“Newcastle United, moving forward together.”

A big year ahead for Newcastle United

While Newcastle are still fighting on four fronts as things stand, and have a chance of European qualification yet again. Their season still hangs in the balance as they sit mid-table in the Premier League and are currently 2-0 down to Manchester City heading into the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday.

The Magpies also face high-flying Aston Villa at Villa Park in the FA Cup fourth round later this month.

So after stating January would be a ‘season-defining’ month for his side, head coach Eddie Howe followed it up by stating that actually, February would be the ‘season-defining’ month after all. Let’s wait and see what happens.
