Manchester United could be set to make a move for Club Brugge wonderkid Aleksandar Stankovic, according to reports - with the Red Devils having produced scouting missions for the 'exceptional' young talent in recent weeks.
The Red Devils have been on a resurgence in the Premier League, entering the top four after huge wins against rivals Manchester City and Arsenal in what has been a huge entrance to the dugout for Michael Carrick.
However, the club need to continue progressing going forward and a move for Stankovic could be well in the offing in the coming months if they are to become regular Champions League qualifiers.
Report: Manchester United 'Have Scouted' Stankovic
Mikel Merino and Aleksandar Stankovic
The report by Italian journalist Matteo Moretto states that Manchester United have recently scouted Stankovic, though it remains to be seen whether they decide to sign the Milan-born star.
Moretto said, on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel: “Many English clubs have gone to watch him and scout him live – Tottenham, Manchester United, lots of teams.”
“But Inter are continuing to follow Stankovic’s development, and they’re staying very calm. Why? Because they have the option to bring him back home either in summer 2026 (July 2026) by paying €23 million, or in July 2027 by paying €25 million.
"So basically, in the end, it’s all in Inter’s hands.”
The midfielder joined Club Brugge from Inter Milan over the summer, though he's clearly shown that he's adept at playing in the Belgian Pro League, which has been a breeding ground for various emerging stars in recent seasons. Inter have a buyback clause of around £21million, which gives the Italian outfit an advantage, but United are still interested in him.
Whether Carrick's men are set to make a move for the Serbian international remains a mystery but registering their interest could do the Red Devils the world of good in the summer.
Man Utd Need a Long-Term Kobbie Mainoo Partner
Kobbie Mainoo
United are set to see Casemiro depart in the summer once his contract expires, which leaves Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo as their midfield options.
That quartet is rather attacking focused, barring Ugarte, and Stankovic would fill into the gaps quite well in any case.
The son of Inter legend Dejan, he'll know exactly what it takes to play for a huge European club, and he could slot in alongside Mainoo to secure United's midfield future whilst giving Fernandes and Mount the tools to shine in a more advanced role further up the pitch.
