Birmingham City are considering a move for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles.

That’s according to Sky Sports News who claim Blues are one of six Championship clubs who have ‘made enquiries’ about the availability of the centre back.

Former Nottingham Forest man Lascelles has been at St James’ Park since 2014 and has made 253 appearances for the club.

However, he hasn’t started a match since March 2024 after suffering a severe knee injury. He made a couple of appearances off the bench this season but has not featured in a match-day squad in recent weeks due to a muscle problem.

The 32-year-old is out of contract in the summer and – if fit – would fill Chris Davies’ desire to sign a left-sided centre half.

Before Christmas, Eddie Howe confirmed the veteran ‘is not feeling great in his body at the moment’ but speaking after last night’s 4-1 loss at Liverpool, the Newcastle manager hinted at a return to fitness.

Having confirmed Newcastle will not sign anyone before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, he revealed: “The only one that possibly could leave is Jamaal Lascelles."

Blues are currently down to two recognised centre-backs, with Phil Neumann partnering Christophe Klarer, Jack Robinson injured and Eiran Cashin now on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
