The two sides have enjoyed contrasting fortunes since both sealing promotion from the Championship.

While the Clarets, who finished 24 points above the Black Cats last season, have toiled, sitting 19th, Sunderland have enjoyed a remarkable campaign back in the top flight, sitting 10th, 13 points above the relegation zone.

They’re also the only side to remain unbeaten at home this season, which proves the size of the task facing a Burnley outfit that haven’t won any of their last 14 league encounters, leaving Scott Parker’s side 10 points adrift of safety.

It’s a miserable run that stretches back 100 days, with their last win coming at Wolves on October 26.

Scott Parker’s pre-match comments

“They're a very, very good team with a home form that is clearly there. I don't think they've lost at home this year, so their stadium is a tough place to go.

“When it gets going, it can be really hostile and make it difficult for away teams and I think you've seen that this season, for sure.

“There's probably loads of different elements that you could add up to say why they've done as well as they've done this year.

“They've recruited very, very well. I think momentum comes into that as well, for sure, and that's not me in any way downplaying what Sunderland have done, because they've done very, very well and they’re a good team.”

What are the predicted teams?

Sunderland: Roefs, Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo, Sadiki, Le Fee, Diarra, Adingra, Mundle, Brobbey

Burnley: Dubravka, Walker, Tuanzebe, Esteve, Humphreys, Pires, Florentino, Ugochukwu, Edwards, Anthony, Broja

Who is the referee?

Paul Tierney. He’s overseen 13 games so far this season, dishing out 48 yellow cards but no reds. This will be his first game involving Burnley since December 2023, when they went down to a 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool. Stuart Attwell is on VAR duty.

What are the latest odds?

Sunderland: 7/10

Burnley: 4/1
