Newcastle United sporting director Ross Wilson will be 'well ahead of the game' when it comes to the Magpies' preparations for the summer transfer window.
That is the verdict of Steven Gerrard, who worked under Wilson during his time as manager of Scottish giants Rangers.
The Magpies are yet to make a signing under Wilson's stewardship since he was appointed as the club's new sporting director back in October.
Newcastle are yet to make a signing in the January transfer window and ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, head coach Eddie Howe dismissed the chances of that changing.
Wilson had previously told Chronicle Live United had the ability to spend in the January transfer window but any new signing had to align with their summer plan.
And while many fans will feel Howe's revelation that will be no signings in the next couple of days is a blow, particularly given they could do with an extra body in defence, Gerrard is confident Wilson will prove his 'outstanding' credentials in the summer transfer window.
"I would say so," Gerrard told TNT Sports when asked if Newcastle are in good hands with Wilson.
"They were in safe hands already with Eddie but what I will say about Ross is he will bond a strong relationship and partnership with Eddie. He will be an incredible support to him.
"We couldn't have done what we done up at Rangers without Ross Wilson. He is a great guy, he is very humble and is excellent at his job. He works around the clock and he will be planning this window, if there is something that is on but he will also be well ahead of the game [for the summer].
"His knowledge of the game worldwide is outstanding."
