The current interim manager of Manchester United, Michael Carrick, has spoken about his interest in bringing Marcus Rashford back to Old Trafford. That is, if he is retained as Manchester United head coach beyond this season.
According to Jason Burt of The Telegraph, Carrick would entertain a huge return to United for Rashford. The 28-year-old was out of favour under the previous boss, Ruben Amorim, making just six appearances. He was originally loaned out to Aston Villa, scoring four goals and notching six assists in 17 appearances.
This season, Marcus Rashford is on loan at FC Barcelona and has impressed during his time in Spain. He’s recorded impressive stats of nine goals and 12 assists in 31 appearances, including five goals in eight in the Champions League.

Carrick Eager to Bring Marcus Rashford Home
In the same article by The Telegraph, it is reported that Marcus Rashford, previously described as a “unique talent,” would prefer to stay at Barcelona. Hansi Flick has the option to purchase the England international for £26million as part of the current loan deal. It is not yet clear whether the option will be triggered or not.
Rashford made it clear in December that his interest was to stay at Barcelona, telling Sport, “What I want is to stay at Barca. It’s the ultimate goal, but it’s not the reason I’m training hard and giving my all. The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles.”

The telling factor may be the manager at Manchester United. Michael Carrick and Marcus Rashford played together at United, albeit at different times in their respective careers. Carrick was coming to the end of his career when Rashford was introduced into the first team. If Carrick could make certain promises to Rashford, it could be enough to encourage a return to England.
Marcus Rashford’s Future
Rashford is still contracted to Manchester United until 2028. His iconic number 10 shirt has already been reassigned to summer signing Matheus Cunha and at one point, it looked like there was no room for Rashford at United. With that being said, under a new manager, Rashford could shine. He’s got the talent, got the will and without a doubt could be a success again at The Theatre of Dreams… only time will tell.
