Aston Villa are bracing themselves for late interest for one of their rising stars

Championship promotion hopefuls Wrexham are reportedly considering a late swoop to try and sign a rising Aston Villa star.

Wrexham are sixth in the Championship table after 30 matches and are dreaming of recording a fourth consecutive promotion after climbing from the National League to the second-tier in the space of just three seasons.

The Red Dragons are on course for the play-offs and are thought to be in the market for a wing-back to supercharge their promotion bid. A number of names are thought to be under consideration and one of those is Aston Villa's Kosta Nedeljkovic.

Wrexham target Kosta Nedeljkovic

The Serbian international has been on the books at Villa since an £12.8m move from Red Star Belgrade in 2024. He made 10 appearances in his first six months after joining, including five in the Premier League and two in Europe, but struggled to nail down a place ahead of Polish international Matty Cash before being loaned out to RB Leipzig.

He’s scheduled to stay in Germany until the end of the campaign, but has struggled to make the same impact as last year, with half the number of Bundesliga appearances so far.

Nedeljkovic could be on the move this month

Nixon reports that Wrexham want Aston Villa to terminate Nedeljkovic’s loan so that they can sign him on a permanent basis before the window closes.

He’s thought to be the Championship’s side first choice target for that position due to his high potential that he’s displayed both in his homeland with Red Star Belgrade and during his international career having played eight times for Serbia.

It’s yet known whether RB Leipzig want to keep the 20-year-old talent at the club until the end of the season or whether they see him as surplus to requirements in their push for a Champions League finish.

It’s worth noting that Portsmouth's Terry Devlin is considered the Welsh club’s main alternative if they can’t make progress with Nedeljkovic.
