The former defender auctioned off the shirts to raise money for charity

John Terry has sold some of the prized memorabilia he collected over his storied career - including a Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United shirt - for an eye-watering figure. The former England and Chelsea defender, who won five Premier Leagues and FA Cups and one Champions League title, auctioned off the football merch for charity.
A portion of of the more than £500k raised from the auction will be donated to the John Terry Foundation. As well as opponents' shirts, the 45-year-old sold several of his own match-worn kits from finals - along with trophy replicas, shin-pads and captain's armbands.

Terry consigned the collection to international auctioneers Goldin, with proceeds from the sale - which garnered a total of nearly $700,000 (£508,000) - going to the John Terry Foundation.
The sale also broke several records for the highest amount paid for a certain player's jersey. Each price includes a buyer's premium.
A Barcelona away Lionel Messi shirt - worn by the Argentine during a 1-0 Champions League group stage defeat at Stamford Bridge - was the biggest seller of the auction.

The orange shirt, with charity UNICEF's logo on the front, sold for $183,000 (£133,000) - becoming the fourth most expensive football shirt ever sold.
A signed and inscribed Manchester United Jersey worn by Cristiano Ronaldo during an April 2008 Premier League match against Chelsea sold for an incredible $115,900 (£84,000) - one of the highest prices ever paid for one of the Portuguese winger's shirts.

Thierry Henry's red-and-white Arsenal shirt - worn during the club's famous Invincibles season of 2003/4, during a match against Chelsea in which he scored the winning goal - sold for $98,820 (£72,500), the highest price ever paid for one of the French striker's shirts.

And a gold Juventus jersey worn by legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi 'Gigi' Buffon during a 2009 Champions League match against Chelsea became the highest sale for one of his shirts, at $22,265 (£16,000).
Other shirts worn by Terry's opponents, including Italian defender Paulo Maldini and fellow compatriots Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand, all sold for as much as $12,200 (£8,800) each.

A replica Premier League trophy presented to Terry sold for $24,400 (£17,700), whilst the shirt he wore during a Champions League Round of 16 Match-Worn against Barcelona - in which he scored his fourth goal in the competition - went for $26,840 (£18,000).
